The Knox Community Street Dance (KCSD) Club aims to foster safe, fun, culturally aware, and welcoming spaces for all community members. By choosing to enter a KCSD governed space, you are expected to adhere to the guidelines outlined below in the Code of Conduct and are willingly subjecting yourself to the consequences associated with breaking the rules. Please read the Code of Conduct thoroughly and feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns through the below channels of communication.
KCSD does not discriminate or tolerate discrimination of individuals based on age, race/ethnicity or nationality, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or lack thereof, body shape or size, mobility or disability, and skill level. KCSD does not condone any harmful or dangerous behaviors in our spaces, including but not limited to disrespect, harassment, bullying, or abuse. We can only respond to what we know about so please report any behavior that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable for any reason.

We understand that experiencing a Code of Conduct violation can be uncomfortable and upsetting. Please try to include all necessary follow up information and as many details as possible so that our team can appropriately address the situation.
Introduction The following list of guidelines detail a nonexhaustive list of KCSD’s Code of Conduct. This list is intended to provide insight into appropriate and inappropriate behaviors for attending KCSD events, participating in KCSD spaces, and/or engaging with the Collective. By attending any KCSD events or spaces, you are subjecting yourself to the governance of this Code. Contact information for questions, comments, or concerns can be found above.
- General Behavior
1.1 Treat everyone with kindness and respect.
1.2 Respect KCSD’s physical space, equipment, and others’ personal belongings.
1.3 Respect the culture.
1.4 Follow instructions from designated Leaders to ensure safety and smooth operations.
1.4 Maintain a positive and open mentality both on and off the dance floor.
- Dance Etiquette
2.1 Respect people’s personal space. Honor boundaries others communicate with you and be empowered to share yours when necessary.
2.2 Avoid dangerous or ill-prepared movements that could harm others and yourself. Safety and sustainability of our bodies are paramount.
2.3 Maintain awareness of your movements and surroundings, especially before performing any power moves, flips, handstands, or other movements that could result in harm to yourself or others.
2.4 Apologize (even if you didn’t mean to cause any harm or discomfort); accidents happen and our space is better when we are all being considerate and gracious towards one another.
2.5 While everyone is encouraged to participate in cyphers and other forms of social dance customs, these activities are not required. Unwanted pressuring or bullying of others to participate in these kind of activities will not be tolerated.
- Inclusivity and Diversity
3.1 We celebrate and welcome individuals of all backgrounds, genders, abilities, and experience levels. Harassment, bullying, or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
3.2 Use inclusive language and avoid offensive jokes or comments. Clowning is different from being hateful.
3.3 Any advice, critique, or support to other dancers should be offered in a patient and encouraging manner. Name calling, degrading, or including of superfluous details will not be tolerated.
- Safety and Wellness
4.1 If you feel unwell or injured, prioritize your health and inform Leadership. If you feel physically ill before an event, please stay home and get better so we can minimize the spread of sickness.
4.2 Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to Leadership immediately.
4.3 Alcohol and illegal substances are prohibited during KCSD activities including but not limited to open seshes, classes, and other KCSD sanctioned events. Anyone purposely under the influence will be asked to leave and their participation in future events may be revoked.
4.4 Dress appropriately for dance activities, including wearing footwear that ensures safety and comfort.
- Commitment to Learning and Growth
5.1 Attend classes, workshops, and events with an open mind and readiness to learn.
5.2 Respect instructors and peers by arriving on time and staying focused during sessions.
5.3 Refrain from interrupting lessons or monopolizing time.
5.4 Please direct questions, comments or concerns to instructors or Leadership during designated time frames or via our contact methods above.
- Social Media, Photography, & Representation
6.1 Always seek consent before photographing or recording others. KCSD does post videos and images from our events and we will ask beforehand. Please feel free to voice your boundaries around being photographed, recorded, and/or posted online
6.2 When using social media, accurately represent KCSD’s stated values and mission in any posts, online, and offline interactions.
6.3 Do not share private or sensitive information about KCSD event attendees or members without permission, and get individual permission to photograph, record, or post folks if you would like to do so yourself. Reposting KCSD content is welcome and encouraged.
6.4 KCSD reserves the right to take down posts, remove tags, and generally engage or not engage with content posted by individuals or collective members that does not align with how the Collective chooses to be represented.
- Handling Conflicts
7.1 Address conflicts calmly and respectfully. Avoid escalation when possible.
7.2 If an issue cannot be resolved personally, seek assistance from the Leadership team.
7.3 Retaliation including but not limited to exclusionary behavior, passive aggression, and generally unkindness against anyone who reports concerns or incidents is strictly prohibited.
7.4 If you feel unsatisfied with the way Leadership has handled a conflict, please feel free to approach Leadership again for further insights.
- Enforcement and Consequences
8.1 Any violation of this Code of Conduct will be addressed by the Leadership team.
8.2 Consequences may include warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent expulsion from KCSD spaces, depending on the severity of the violation.
8.3 The Leadership team reserves the right to make final decisions regarding disciplinary actions.
8.4 Appeals may be considered on a case by case basis and may not be extended for people who engage in severe violations.
